The college tuitions are paid, the months of researching and looking are over and a Kafkaesque day at the DMV office is done and I am now the proud owner of a 1966 TR4A. Wire wheels, wooden steering wheel, BRG and the vibrato sounds of a true British sports car - Rule Britannia! I know...the enthusiasim of a newbie.  She's in very good shape mechanically and about a B, B+ esthetically, e.g. the tin worm is showing an interest in some places.  I am more into "preservation" than "restoration" so I have started my to do list and I look forward to exchanging ideas with the veterans here.

Congratulations on your TR4A. I'm looking at a 65. Any advice for me after your recent adventure? Thanks, Larry

Thanks

The fact that it was a '66 was a combination of availability and condition.  I knew I wanted a TR4A vs a TR4 and I wanted something that was in good diveable and presentable shape.  I had paid my dues in buying a 1986 Alfa Romeo Spyder over eBay for $4K in high hopes of beginning a restoration project.  Bad idea especially, a) it was a borderline parts car, b I was just learning and c)it was Italian. Speaking as an Italian trust me on the rather sensitive nature of Italian engineering.

I purchased mine at Automotive Restorations, Inc. in Stratford, Ct.  They have a website and I don't think they took my car off the "For Sale" page.

Once I get settled in and become a member of VTR I am going to look into why it's so balky when I start it up cold.  Other than that it's an awesome ride and - I freely admit it - I get a kick out of people pointing at it when I'm tooling around the backroads here in CT. To paraphrase the line from "The Treasure of Sierra Madre": "Porsche? we don' need no stinkin' Porsche!"

Cheers and good luck,

Bob
