I'm finally close to interior work on my TR3. I took some stuff out to look at it and developed some questions. Can anyone help? 1. My spare tire door doesnt fit well with the standard seal strip. Trimming the seal seems to be the right answer, but I have tried several ways to do this and none work - cant keep a straight line from side to side or along path of travel. 2.How do you attach the fuzzy door draft seal? 3. does the lip on the trunk/boot seal face into the trunk or out to the perimiter of the car? 5. my door gasket kit came with long splined (grooved) piece of rubber that obviuosly goes on the bottom the the doors with the little insert clips. There are also two short pieces of the same rubber material, but no holes in the door to attach them to (forgive the dangling preposition). 5. There is also in the door seal kit a piece of neoprene that resembles the spare tire door gasket. Does this go into the scuttle/cowl above the front of the doors with the little clips?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like maybe you have the wrong spare tire gasket.  The correct gasket is much thinner than the seals that go above the front of the doors, and its cross-section is shaped more like a shallow bowl.
The one I got from TRF looked very similar to the original, and fit perfectly.  It needs to be snug, so the cover does not move around from road vibration, etc.

The areas above the front of the doors get short lengths of the same gasket used at the bottom of the doors, held with the same little clips.

Thanks for the response. The label on my spare gasket (TRF)claims to be "seal, spare tire lid. It is rhomboid in cross section with a thin flap sticking off one corner of the profile.
Thanks again,

1.I recall that I used a razor blade and cut the seal to shorten the height of it.  It seemes like I cut it about in half.  Seemed pretty drastic at the time I was cutting, but it worked.
2. The fuzzy door seal at the back of the door opening is nailed on.  There was a woven cord  that looked like it was made of paper that fits in a groove with some metal tabs to hold it in.  The nails were driven into that cord. 3. The lip of the trunk seal should face outwards.  4. Randall has answered this one.  5. There was also originally a seal located on the back of the door that closed against the area of the fuzzy seal which is on the body.  I am not sure if the last piece you mention is this seal.  Is it twice as long as the door is tall?

Thanks again, Charley. The short neoprene piece in the door kit goes on the rear of the door with weatherstrip adhesive. I remember the rope in the front of the inner quarter panel, but it had nothing attached when I took the car apart. The only mystery remaining is attachment of the front piece of fuzzy. I assume that no finishing component exists for the floor/outer sill seam. My weld there is pretty (for a change) anyhow.
Thanks,

p/s
My problem with the spare tire gasket was operator error. The little flange I mentioned goes toward the car body so it shows when the door is in place. That didn't seem right to me when I first looked at it.

The front fuzzy strip is attached underneath the rear edge of carpet kick panel.   At least the strip on the back of the fuzzy strip.  So there are several screws that fit in that area to help hold the fuzzy weatherstrip and the kick panel in place.

There is a polished aluminum "finisher strip" that goes over the top of the rocker/body/inner floor weld seam.  This piece fits over the top and extends down on the outer side for the 3/8 - 1/2" to the outer sill and then on the inner side all of the way to the floor ( About 1& 1/2 ".  In Moss the number is 855-858.  I would expect TRF to have them also.  Mine were held down by screws though it appears Moss says they were held by pop rivets.
Good luck,

Thanks again. I have looked at that page numerous times and never looked at the description of the strip.
