I have a persistent problem with my 1976 TR6 in that the engine is missing (bucking), under load (while driving only). This happens regardless of engine temp., but not at idle. I have replaced the points with a Pertronix Electronic Ignition and Coil, Cobalt wires, new distributor cap and heavy-duty rotor, and new Champion plugs. I've checked the timing (ok), adjusted and synchronized the carbs, and checked the valves (ok). All vacuum hoses seem fine. After this service it runs well for 10-15 miles, then the missing again rears its ugly head!

The car has only 17k miles on it (as best as I can tell from 2 owner documentation),
and is totally stock, except for an aftermarket Monza dual exhaust system.

What am I missing (lol)here? EGR system? Freer flowing exhaust? Driving me crazy!
All Sherlock Holmes TR6 experts please.......help me solve this case.

I had a similar problem with my TR4 with SU carbs.  I am sure that you do not have SU's however, I do not believe that the differences are that great.  I found my problem to be number one, the wrong needles were in the carbs.  They were the primary problem.   After that was cured, I did have some minor recurrence and found that the oil level in the carb dampers was very low.

Hope that this may help some.

What happens if you drive it with the vacuum line to the EGR disconnected and plugged?

Any chance the gaskets to the air filter box are installed wrong?  There is a vent hole in the face of the carb that must communicate with the air box or you'll get strange mixture problems only when driving.

Did the problem exist before you changed all those ignition components?

Thanks TR3 Driver and Charlie Fitch! This problem was already there before the ignition changes. I thought it had to be ignition first, but alas, no. As far as the EGR vacuum line, I'm going to try plugging that next as a last resort before pulling the carbs. Thanks, guys.

Plugging the EGR line did not help. My tech thinks it might be the fuel pump. Any thoughts?
