My 72 TR6 has dual Weber DGV downdraft style carbs that were on the car when I purchased it that I am having trouble getting adjusted correctly.  I have been told by a very popular ZS carb rebuilder that I should not waste any more time with the Webers and that I should have the original ZS carbs rebuilt and put back on the car since the DGV Webers are inefficient due to the intake manifold adaptors that are used with these downdraft carbs. I've always heard that these were great carbs!
What to do Huh?  I would appreciate everyone's opinion both pro and con.
I'm so confused!!!!!

Webers are very sexy but do have tuning concerns. Most owners seem to opt for HS6 SUs even if they have Strombergs originally. Since you have Webers I assume there are no "smog" issues involved so there is a choice to be made. My '64 TR4 had Strombergs and I converted to SUs, simpler and seemingly more efficient.

I have read several stories of how difficult it is to get especially the downdraft Webers tamed.

When I rebuilt my engine this spring I had Jeff Palya at Paltech Micropolishing rebuild my ZS carbs.  http://paltech1.com/ Because of some of the mods in my engine Jeff installed Jag needles. Before I cranked the engine for the first time I made the couple of adjustments Jeff recommended and it started right up and has been running great for over 2,000 miles during the last 30 days since I finished the rebuild. Yes, I drive my car a bit and it is not my daily driver.

Jeff did a fabulous job and my TR6 runs great. I know of several TR6 owners that have gone to Jeff and all of them are happy with the result.

I recently installed a pair of H6S SUs in my '73 TR6. I used a rebuild kit for TR4A with standard needles (TW, I believe.) Does anyone have a suggestion for a more appropriate needle? Thanks.

Slightly off topic, but I've been very happy with triple weber side drafts...

cons:
pretty bad gas milage
never figured out the "choke" circuit - runs lean til warmed up
pros:
sounds awesome
looks exotic
gets plenty of gas into the engine
has been reliable and held tune over many years
recommendations:
find short air horns and air filters that will fit a TR6 - The standard air horns and filter might be too long and hit the TR6 inner fender. I think that skipping the air horns hurts the ability to tune.  Also watch (I listen with a stethoscope) for vacuum leaks at the o-ring interface to the manifold, an uprated kit is available (pierce manifold pn 99005.146) and works better IMHO.
