1978 Triumph Spitfire

« on: February 16, 2011, 07:01:14 PM »

I have a cherry 78 Spitfire which despite its rather new car appearance still has many issues.  The turn signals do not work at all.  However, all the bulbs are fine.  I activated the Hazard signal and only the drivers side front and rear lights flashed.  HOWEVER, when I turned the right turn signal on while the Hazard lights were activated, the passenger side lights also began to work.  So I am going to step out on a ledge and use a little logic, if that is possible with a Lucas system, and guess since all four lights will blink with the hazard lights on and the right turn signal switch activated that it is probably the turn signal switch mechanism.

Open to opinions and other potential ideas as to the root cause.  THINK SPRING!

Could be the actual turn signal switch, but the hazard switches in these cause a lot of problems with the turn signals.  Go to http://triumphspitfire.com/wiring.html and download a wiring diagram if you don't already have one.  You'll see that the turn signals feed through the hazard switch.
