Had to replace the alternator in my '73 - first put in a Delco but it didn't have the extra terminal for the warning light.  Exchanged it for a Beck/Arnley that I put in last night and have an interesting problem.  Alternator works fine while running (light goes out and shows 15 on the amp meter) but when I shut it down, turn the ignition off and take the key out - the warning light stays on.  The only way to turn the light off is to unplug the brown/yellow terminal on the back of the alternator (or disconnect the battery).  Wasn't a problem with the old one or the spare I installed from my other TR6.  I am assuming the internal regulator is defective but before I send it back thought I would ask.  Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the internal regulator?  Thinking about opening it up and swapping parts with the old one.

Thanks, Randy

For future reference if others run into a similar problem.  The internal control/regulator on the new Beck/Arnley alternator only had two wires (white, yellow) and the one on the previous alternator (and the one on my other 73 TR6) both had 4 - white, yellow, black and red.  I removed the unit from the old alternator and replaced it on the Beck/Arnley.  I had my other alternator to look at to ensure I wired it properly but I also had written down the wiring.  Put it back together and it works the way it should - now the Ignition Warning light does not stay on when I have the ignition turned off  Smiley
