I bought a beautiful 62 TR-4 last week, drove 280 miles and the engine blew, after threat of legal action the seller has agreed to give me a reasonable amount for replacement of the engine.  I live in Nashville, TN

I would like to buy from a reputable engine supplier.  If you have had a good experience purchasing a long block, including Head please let me know,  I am sick to my stomach about being conned by the seller who had stated that all running gear had been rebuild and was in excellent condition.  Please help.  I will either trailer the car to a reputable shop or have them ship the engine to me for install.  Respond on the forum or call me thank you.  Nothing is worse than hearing engine parts hitting the underside of your beautiful newly purchased classic

Hi Bruce,

I think it it was me I would check with Charles Runyan and TRF to see what they could provide first.  Since they are one of the major vendors in the US for Triumph parts, their CAR components company should provide just what you need.

Bruce,
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear of the mishap. Triumph engines are not in short supply. I'd check with you local club (Blue Ridge Triumphs?) via email. I'm sure they can put you in touch with a relatively local rebuilder and locate a core if needed. To find one ready to drop in is a bit more difficult although there are a few around. I do know of one possibility here (NH) and will put you in touch with the owner if the distance doesn't scare you off. In addition o shipping, it makes warranty (don't know if this even carries one) difficult too. Send me a message or email if you want to pursue this further. Tom

"Triumph Rescue"  in Bally PA is rebuilding a long block for me.  Price seemed good and they have been doing it for almost 20 years and includes a warranty.

The reason for the blown engine was a rebuilder error.  Apparently they did not close the locking tab (or maybe did not install one on number four cylinder.  One of the rod cap bolts backed out (as evidenced by good threads on one side of the rod and the other one sheered at the face).

Thank you for the responses.  I have been rebuilding british iron since my first sprite in 1963.  This time I had decided that this car looked very good and I would let someone else's money do the restoration.  Oh well, I guess you will be hearing lots from me in the future.  thanks again to all
