A couple of months ago my mechanic replaced the points, and the car ran fine the rest of the day, but the next morning it wouldn’t start cold. A few weeks later he noticed a burn hole in the vacuum hose going from the distributor to the carb. He replaced it, and the thing ran fine for a few hours. But suddenly it backfired three times and the engine died as I was driving down the highway.

Got it back home, and after looking the engine over a couple of days ago, we felt the fuel pump could be bad, so I replaced it, but the darn thing still won’t start. It doesn’t even kick over, like there’s no gas flowing, but the gas is flowing fine.

The coil has spark when the ignition is turned on, and I replaced the needles in both carbs about a year ago, maybe 1,000 miles ago. This is my first TR 6, so I’ve got a lot to learn. I’d love to take it for a drive this weekend.

My mechanic is out of town and I’m just wondering if anyone has any ideas? THANKS.

David, just curious, does your 74 still have the ballast wire to the coil and if so are you running a "ballast" coil or a regular coil. Also have you a spare rotor to try?  Look over all the connections on the points and make sure they are snug and proper gap on the points.  Jim W.

Thanks, Jim. I'll get another rotor and see what happens. Quite frankly, I don't know if I have a ballast coil or not, so I've got something new to learn...

This may help...plus make sure the points didn't "ground out"  where the wires hook on there should be an insulator washer.
